Photography

..has been in and out of my life since I learned about black and white mode on my dad's Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 in 2005, since I took a few snapshots on a cloudy day at the top of a mountain in Jamaica with that camera in 2006 and realized I could document and share the beauty of the world with my mom back home, since the few days after that when I accidentally ruined my dad's camera when it was sitting in my pocket and a salty rogue wave on the beach ruined and he forgave me, since he gifted me my first dSLR 9 months later in 2007. It's been a big deal in my life since I learned that it could be an expressive form of art in 2008, since I snuck out of my window to photograph with my friends all night before highschool classes in the morning in 2009, to when I came in second place in my first photography competition in 2010, and so on, and so forth. I could wax poetic about it all day, write long form articles about numerous aspects and angles of the craft, and tie in a lot of metaphors and life lessons while I'm at it. I have so many feelings about photography, good and bad, that I wouldn't know where to start. It's a really good excuse to go places and meet people that I otherwise wouldn't have allowed myself to approach, and is probably still the most accessible and democratic visual media available. At its core, it is really just the craft of exposing a photosensitive surface to light - the final image doesn't need to represent reality, and sometimes it doesn't even necessitate the use of a camera or lens. It's just the use of light to create a fixed image. Beautiful.

Unfortunately I haven't put a lot of time into the webpage yet, so it's a bit unorganized and outdated, but someday I might! Until then, enjoy some of the little sniplets from my history with the craft that I've decided to share.
